    Murdock started singing gospel music in her native Toledo before he was hired by Roger Troutman as a backing singer for his family’s band Zapp, which had several hits on Warner Bros.

    Moreover, Troutman started recording tracks at his Dayton-based recording studio, Troutman Sound Labs with Murdock and lead singer Sugarfoot of the Ohio Players. Warner Bros is the first Chart single Murdock and Troutman first recorded and released.
